Powerdyne superchargers? It's self contained, installation is simple, but oil changes should be done on them about every 12,000-miles, separate from your engine. Powerdyne Automotive Products Inc. Installation instructions 1996 -1999 Dodge Pickup 318 0r 360 C.I. Engine This manual is intended for the installation of the Po w-erdyne Supercharger kit, Part Number K10516 on the Dodge 318 or 360 C.I.
DESCRIPTION The POWERDYNE Power-Plus Centrifugal Supercharger will provide 40 to 50% more delivered horsepower and torque and do it efficiently, reliably and quietly with no loss of driveability or daily ease of operation. You can substantially increase your vehicle's quarter-mile acceleration. This rugged supercharger's precision construction and the exclusive POWERDYNE SilentDrive cog-belt internal drive assures full high speed performance at all RPMs along with outstanding reliability and quiet operation. Recently installed a Powerdyne BD11a in my Factory Five 1965 Cobra (see it at mykobra.com). I have a Ford 302 motor so I ordered a 9psi 86-93 Ford Mustang kit. The kit was totally complete, looks very well built, and is a high quality product.
Installation was a breeze even though the instructions definetly could use some work & pics. The performance increase is amazing. I drove the car for about a year naturally aspirated and now it feels like a totally different animal. I am very pleased with this blower. I recently installed my Powerdyne supercharger on my 2005 F-150 truck.
Talk about a difference. The installation was easy enough, I just had to wait for my programmer. Maybe I should have filled our their tuning sheet first? Hah, live and learn. It took me about a full day to instal it, if the instructions were a little more detailed, I probably could have done it a little quicker. I noticed a difference in power right from the start, and all the way thru the RPM band.
It's nice and quiet, and didn't effect the way my engine ran in any way, except it gets alot more power now, and my boat doesn't seem anywhere near as big anymore when I tow it. I have already recommended this to my friends with similar trucks, and after riding in my truck, I don't think I'll be the only guy with one that I know. For racing XB-1a would be a better choice. I've had my BD-11a Powerdyne for over 7 years now and it's been great.
The install wasn't so bad. I only needed help with the fuel line, boost retardant switch and gauges. Everything else was straight forward. The Power is awesome.
I tend to take it off sometimes when it's time for smog and yes, there's a big difference between a boosted and an NA car. It makes great bottom end boost.
I plan going all the way up to 12 psi with the upgraded bearings and belt. Currently I'm running 7-8 psi. People say it's unreliable, knock on wood.
I went 6 years straight without any problems. I only had it rebuilt so I could get the upgraded bearings and kevlar sprayed belt. It runs even better now.
I know it's doesn't have the performance potential of an ATI. But people at www.superchargeronline.com have complained about ATI's reliability and it's rebuilding more so than Powerdyne. There was so much complain that ATI took itself out and is no longer a sponsor for that site. All in all, I'm very please with it.
And I have no complain. It's the coolest (temp) running supercharger out there. Which explains for not having an intercooler (I will have Water/Alcohol Injection soon) and it makes awesome power. Mostly myself with a couple of guys around to lend an extra hand now and then. The kit was complete. I did hsve to change out the acc. Belt for a 1/2' longer one. I have no boost gauge but I can now smoke that 10' right rear tire anytime,(I need a posi.
Unit now) and the power from 30 to 80 mph. Is much improved over stock, I am now able to pass on a two lane road with ease, no more drama there. I also installed a program fropm HyperTech and the combination is really great Don't get me wrong now it's not a Cobra but that little S-10 can really move away from a stop light with some class now. I think a s/charger is the better choise than a V8 over the front axel as I did buy the truck for it's handling which is great. I've only had it for about a month and I am pleased with the product. I've only had it for about a month and I am pleased with the product. Weakness: customer service is terrible, the directions are terrible, the warranty work is terrible, the parts they use are terrible even though they claimed that if there is a better part they would use it. But I know that is not true because I think powerdyne is is focused on using parts that fail in a given amount of time so they can make money by doing repairs, then not fix it right so it can be done all over again. When they charge you I think it's $100 just to take it apart and look at it! I took mine apart in 30 minutes in my living room while watching tv! Save your cash and buy a better setup. The directions are terrible.
A good example is tightening the bolts they say 'nice and tight'. What kind of garbage is that? Not to mention the grade 5 bolts that came with the kit, one ended up breaking in the head, and the belt kept it from comming out so I didn't see it right away and the bearings ended up failing. At that time it was under warranty and it was fixed for free. When I got the blower back just by turning the pulley by hand I could tell some bearings are still bad(I could hear clicking when I turned it). I got the head fixed and I put it on to see what would happen, and it lasted about six days. So it was then sent in again and fixed under warranty, and powerdyne started to insist I had a different pulley on it.
So when I got it back the second time they had some sort of glue type stuff on the pulley(so if I took off the pulley the glue would be gone). Well then 11 months later the bearings failed again, this time it is now out of warranty, powerdyne wants $200-$500 to fix it. So I found bearings that would work and did it myself, replacing all 4 bearings for under $200. I also found out in my search for bearings that the ceramic bearings are good for high rpm and run cool, but the downside is that they cannot handle load(which the internal belt creates). So why does powerdyne use those?
Also found out the the larger bearings for the pulley shaft are not even ceramic, only the impeller bearings are ceramic! The unfortunate part is when I took it apart they had tons of permanent locktight on the inner bearings because they fit so loose. And when we put it back together we did not put enough bearing seater on those inner bearings and the inner impeller bearing fell apart, and the impeller is now a little scared and don't think it can be re-used. Before the blower seized it was hitting 8.5 psi, and the kit is only a 7psi. I would not recomend anyone to buy powerdyne.
I would give them two stars for each rating if the customer service is there, and if I knew the tech's doiung repairs are competent. I bought this piece of crap for a 2000 Chevy Xtreme and when my mechanic put it on and installed a boost gauge it made a whopping 3lbs. Of boost with a 7lb. I upgraded the pulley to a 9lb. And the result was 5lbs. (At altitude).
You could feel a little bit of power but a power starved 4.3L Vortech motor can safely handle around 12lbs. Of boost,so you can imagine the disappointment. I called them and the tech, who spends more time answering phones than doing his job, said there are no upgrades for it and an intercooler would actually hurt it rather than help. Anyways it was fine for about 2 years and then I hit 50,000 miles and the internal cog belt grenaded. My mechanic, (Who is a certified Aircraft technician and rebuilds jet turbos),was not allowed to purchase the replacement belt from Powerdyne and fix it himself. That is why PD Superchargers are so cheap the money you pay for it VS.
Its competetors is made up later on with their monopoly on repairing it and you -WILL- be repairing it!!! After receiving it he wanted $750.00 to repair the bearings and install a new belt. I paid him and- 2 MONTHS LATER- finally received my charger back.
After it was re-installed it sounded like a duck being tortured! My mechanic took it off and inspected it only to find out that the gears were grinding in the supercharger casing. I KNOW the tech reassembled it half-assed because I threatened to speak to his manager about the drawn out turn around time. Needless to say I will NEVER buy anything from Powerdyne again!!! I purchased this powerdyne setup from ebay over a year ago it was set up for 11 pounds of boost and was in nasty condition on the out side but the impellar was in nice condition I installed it and found out that the kit must have come off a wreked car because the lower crank pulley was bent so I had to purchase a new one from powerdyne and it took three weeks to get. I now found out that www.aspracing.com sells complete pulley kits for powerdyne chargers and they are 5 pounds lighter wish I would have known that earlier. But any way I got the whole thing set up and about a week after I installed it a bearing went bad in it I said the hell with it and I am still driving it with the bad bearing and it runs mint just alittle noisey and still puts out around 10 to 12 psi so I have no complaints. I bought this with the info I would get a 40% to 50% gain in horspower. My truck came with 220hp so that would be about 88-110hp added. Not the case with a gain of that amount I should be able to spin my tires with no problem.I also have free flow dual exhuast 30lbs injectors msd A6 ign, coil msd boost master 200Lps fuel pump that came with it.Would you belive I can't even spin them unless I make a sharpe turn and nail it.so I took it off it's not worth the gas.I forgot the fuel pump was leaking form the case sent it back to a month to get a new one.

I have a convertable v6 camaro with all kinds of ground effects and other stuff that adds weight. Being a v6 with all the extra crap makes it extra slow. My best stock was a 16.6 in the quarter. After some modding my best was a 16.1. That was just not enough power for me so I decided to supercharge.
When I got the bd11a1 I had everything that I needed. The only problem I actually had with the powerdyne was that I had to cut my outlet pipe to make it fit.Took 10 minutes, no big deal. The instructions suck, but the average guy could probaly just look at the parts and put it together. Took about 4 hours. At first I never saw more then 4 pounds of boost off my 6lb pully. Even though the 4 lbs felt good I knew I was getting screwed. Then my stock fuel pump just died on me.
Car was dead for a good month. I put in a new high power fuel pump and really cranked the belt down. I still had a hard time maintaining the 6 lbs of boost. I took the 6lb powerdyne pully to my mechanic and had him put a 10 groove pattern on it.
The thing runs awesome now! The belt is not even tight and I get 7-9 psi depending on what gear Im in. I took her to the track and confirmed my added power. I went from a best of 16.1 to a new best of 15.1. The powerdyne dropped my 3800 pound car (weight with me in it) One full second! The average drop for us v6 camaro guys with the powerdyne is 1-1.5 seconds so I feel there may be more potential in it.
I am very happy with the results from the powerdyne and beleave that if you just get your pully right and make sure everything is ready then you will get good power with minimum disaster. I should have upgraded my fuel pump before I put on the charger. I cant say powerdyne is crap cas I didnt upgrade my fuel system, that was my fault. I now have had the Powerdyne kit for a year now and while its working the thing is fantastic! But now onto the important stuff, I know everyone says that powerdyne is garbage and i didnt buy the kit but it came on the car I bought.
But heres how I see it, the belt thats in the supercharger did snap, but only after 3 years of abuse! And when it did, me and my buddy upgraded the belt, and the bearings for a hundred bucks off ebay! Thats the cool thing about its simplistic design is you can rebuild it yourself! Both the new belt and the bearings are twice as good as the original so i should see even a longer time before it breaks. And when you look at the price $1500 for a brand new kit off ebay you cant really go wrong! So just a good experience I figured I'd share. This is just like the suck-through MAF set-up I had on my car.
It made just shy of 300rwhp on my stock 3.8L and made over 320rwhp on my stock 4.2 at the same boost of about 12# All kits include: - New BD-11A head unit with 3-year Powerdyne warranty(extended warr. Avail.) - Stainless steel discharge tubes (powdercoated steel is an option) - Aluminum satin finish mounting brackets - Goodyear or Gates belt - Bosch by-pass valve - 42# injectors - 255 or 300lph pump - SCT MAF - Pre-programmed SCT flip chip with 3 custom programs - K & N filter - All necessary hardware and hoses to install - Complete instructions and tech support available just about 24/7. The kit comes sub assembled and only takes about 4 hours plus the time it takes to change the fuel pump. Some can change a pump in an hour.some take 3 hours. $2999 (Free install if you come to MI) Same kit as above with fully reconditioned BD-11A and 2 year warranty: $2499 (Free install if you come to MI) This kit: - Includes everything. No other kit offers this level of completeness.
Is by far the easiest kit to install with no oil lines or tapping of the pan. Is the quietest of any available at idle. Can be removed even faster than it was installed. 50% due at time of order. Balance due when kit is shipped.

So just a good experience I figured I'd share. Powerdyne is a good novice kit. A good unit to start with. My buddy made 481 horsepower at the wheels and has gone 10.50s with a Powerdyne on a stock short block 5 liter.
He just switched to a Vortech S trim so we will see what the car does now.
